Inline Rename (F2) Looses Focus on Alt+Tab

Inline Rename (F2) Looses Focus on Alt+Tab

Highlight a file
Hit F2 (rename)
Alt Tab away from Everything
(can't imagine why anyone would ever go away from Everything ;-))
Alt Tab back to Everything

result:

Focus is on the Search bar rather then the file where you left off

That is new, different, & wrong behavior in 1271.

often i'll F2 enter part of a rename, alt+tab (rather then Enter or something else)
- which does "complete" the rename, nonetheless, then i'll check something, then
alt+tab right back to Everything (F2) & enter another part of a rename (for that same
file). now, that behavior is broken. now you need to first TAB back to the wanted file
(as focus on return, is in the Search bar).

(if you were to hit ENTER, then alt+tab, you're OK.)

but, as i said [<1271], an alt+tab alone
"completed" the rename, saving a step - hitting Enter...
Name: abc
F2: abc123, alt-tab (away)
(at that point, the file /is/ named, abc123
- no need to have hit Enter, the alt-tab "completed" the rename.
granted /that/ behavior might be considered a bit odd, but it actually works very
well, used all the time)
atl-tab (back) [now, 1271] focus is on Search bar.
[before]
focus remained at abc[123] & with that, F2, abc[123][456], alt-tab
& the file is renamed to abc123456, as wanted, expected.

Thanks for the bug report therube,

This is indeed a bug.
It has been introduced by adding support for restoring focus to the preview pane.

I am working on a fix.

Most likely all these scenarios are related:

1271

Select 2 files
Hit Delete

result:

Files are deleted
Focus jumps to the Search bar

---

Open a file
F2 (inline) rename
File in use...
Close file
File in use... -> Try Again

result:

File is renamed
Focus jumps to the Search bar

(hmmm. there must be more involved here.
[LFN not involved]
it certainly did happen - MULTIPLE times.
maybe you need a screen (viewport) full of filenames?
& select a file in the middle of such...?
[& now i'm not duping it? it was so easy, b4.])

open
rename
- in use
THIS -> click or alt-tab to some other application (text editor or whatever)
close
now, back to 'File In Use' -> Try Again

result:

file is renamed
focus jumps to Search bar

perhaps easier if you have an Everything window open, centered
when you open the file, "pin" it left
have editor opened, pinned right (i actually had a different player pinned right)
so: open, rename, in use, editor, close, in use -> Try again

---

Select a file
F2 (initiate only)
(do not focus away from Everything)
Alt+C (hotkey which brings up CLCL clipboard)
Select an item from the clipboard history

result:

instead of nothing happening, or perhaps a BELL (tone), or some irrelevant quirk,
the selected history item gets pasted into Everything's Search bar

(all of the above items are different, wrong behaviors compared to < 1271)

---

Select a file
F2 (initiate only)
alt-tab to something else
alt-tab back to Everything

result:

Focus is (wrongly) in Everything's Search bar

(this is the same as 1 of the above, only more concise STR

Thanks for the bug feedback therube,

Everything 1.5.0.1272a fixes an issue with restoring the focus.

Everything will now only restore the focus to the search box, result list, or a preview pane control.
