Cannot get edits in everything.ini to stick

I followed the wonderful advice in the Everything FAQ about "set "Everything" to use an external file manager". I have succeeded on 3 machines. I simply did what it told me which was

Add the following 2 lines to the bottom of the ini:
open_folder_command=$exec("ExternalFileManager.exe" "%1")
open_folder_path_command=$exec("ExternalFileManager.exe" "$parent(%1)")

However on my newest machine I just cannot get the edits to stick. Everytime I open everything it reverts to the original everything.ini and my edits are lost.

My system
Windows 7 64bit and I am an administrator

I have been struggling for hours. Please help.

Please make sure you exit "Everything" completely when changing the Everything.ini file.

To exit Everything:

• Right click the "Everything" system notification icon.
• Click Exit.

I found a little "cheat" to do this.

Use Everything to find the everything.ini file. Then right click to copy the name and path. Close everything (RC icon and exit).

Then open Notepad and click File, Open and in the File Name paste the previously copied name.

Edit what you want and save it. Next time you open Everything it will have your changes.
