Index of external drive

Post by Exotic77 »

I have a failed external USB drive. How do I access the index of my external USB drive and can I print the contents?
I see in an earlier post the recommendation to use db2efu application to read the database files. I've tried this with no success. The version of Search Everything that I am using is 1.4.0.713b (x64). Can you provide an updated version of db2efu?

Try to make the index of Everything, only for that USB external drive, by playing with Tools > Options > Indexes subs (NTFS...). Try to disable for each volume "Include in database".
This will make index/database only for that volume.
Then, for printing,
File > Export... > Save as Type

Improving the way of the indexing/database works is already requested.

I was unable to generate an index of just the failed external drive. It seems to do that I would have to rebuild the index and since the drive is failed and inaccessible would get no results. I did use the updated Database recovery tool (thank you!) and was able to generate a list of the folder/files of all my drives as they were before the failure. The failed and missing drive is still in the database. I found the only legible way of accessing the list was to open with Search Everything. I then sorted by path to isolate the drive list. I would now like to further sort this list by date created or modified. Is there a way to get the list for just this drive, sort it by date, and then print it?

Please try searching for the failed drive, for example if the failed drive was your D: drive, search for:
d:

Now you can sort by date modified by clicking the Date modified column header.
Date created information is not indexed, unless you enabled it.

You can export this to csv and format it to your liking to print with your favourite spread sheet application (eg: Excel).

To export to csv:
  • In Everything, from the File menu, click Export.
  • Change the Save as type to CSV.
  • Select a filename and click OK.

Thank you. I had gotten as far as searching for the drive and sorting by date modified on my own but I didn't know that you can include date created in the indexing or about exporting to CSV. It pays to be patient and listen to the experts.
