How can we know if the Beta is stable or not?
How can we know if the Beta is stable or not?
Currently I'm using version 1.3.4.686.
I used the Betas mainly for testing, and not for use.
This was fine, as long as I know they were changing frequently.
It wasn't the case regarding the last Beta version 1.4.0.713b.
If I knew it would not be updated so long, I would use this version regularly.

Beta is stable. And improved.
I see no reason not to use it.

Re: How can we know if the Beta is stable or not?
The problem is we can't know the time intervals between the beta releases and how soon is planned to have a release of new beta. A matter of days? weeks? months?
It will be great if we can know when a Beta is going to stand by.

Re: How can we know if the Beta is stable or not?
And why should it matter?
Very little negative that can happen if Everything farts.
(It might as well cause Everything does everything [as]well.)
1.3.4 release was August 2014.
1.4.0 beta was November 2015.
The next release, your crystal ball is as good as mine?
The features, changes, improvements made in 1.4.0 beta are not of interest to you?
Then stay with 1.3.4.
My browser, at work in particular, I stick with Release.
Can't afford to have it fart on me.
My browser, at home, I use what gives me the features I want, even if it happens to be a beta or nightly. But I do so knowing that it may fart on me. (Actually, in the FF realm - which I don't use, basically any "Release" has to be considered at least a Beta, because there are so many changes between one Release & another, you never know what may or may not work from one day to the next.)

Re: How can we know if the Beta is stable or not?
I think it because in those days Everything have been updated ~weekly, so I'd prefered to wait a while with the updating till we finish with some fixes/improvments.
I need my Everything works the best.
I don't want to update to trial version, and maybe have troubles when I realy need it.
Your idea about Beta and Nightly versions sounds good.
I remember it being talked to create a Beta releases page in Forum, where everyone can be updated by Email about new releases (subscribe to the page). It can announce 2 types of versions, Beta or Nightly.

Re: How can we know if the Beta is stable or not?
There are really 3 types of releases, as far as I know. ❶ Stable releases, like Everything v1.3.4.686 which is on the home page ❷ Beta releases, like Everything v1.4.0.713b Beta, also found on the home page, and ❸ Unofficial Betas, which are scattered around this site like Easter eggs.Stamimail wrote:It can announce 2 types of versions, Beta or Nightly.
I am currently using Everything v1.4.0.717b (64-bit) which has been very stable and reliable for me. It is found on this page, at the very bottom of the page: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5375&p=14657&hilit=717b#p14657
There is a version 719b, but it is not ready for release yet - the rename function doesn't work at all, for example.
Re: How can we know if the Beta is stable or not?
I tried to upgrade to 717 (service upgraded as well), but I discovered I can't. I don't want it like it is now.
What is bothering me, 717 is using "use last value" regarding the View, and there is no VIEW option in HOME to set it.
I want every New WIndow I'm opening, will be opened in Details View mode.

Re: How can we know if the Beta is stable or not?
The "Details" option is under the View menu bar. I run Everything in a portable setting, I don't use the installer version, I just created a C:\Everything folder and run it from there.

Yes, I know that. Try to change the view, and then Ctrl+N. I want the new window will return to default view.SuperDude wrote:The "Details" option is under the View menu bar. There is in Options a Home tab where you can determine the behaviour of Everything, how it will be act when opening new windows.

Added Home -> View option for the next update. What is bothering me, 717 is using "use last value" regarding the View, and there is no VIEW option in HOME to set it.
Everything 1.4.1 beta release will be soon..
Currently trying to fix a stability issue with database access before releasing.
Re: How can we know if the Beta is stable or not?
Thank you. I'll be waiting.
