everything does not remember my offline dive.
everything does not remember my offline dive.
i have a fat32 drive which i have indexed as a folder in everything. It's usually connected to my tv.
Yesterday I added the line
keep_missing_indexes=1
to my ini.file.
This morning while the drive was disconnected, I did some tests to see if everything would find something which I knew to be on the drive. It didn't. Perhaps I'm mistaken. But I thought it had the ability to achieve this.

Re: everything does not remember my offline dive.
Does Everything find anything on the offline volume? try searching for the offline volumes drive letter followed by a colon. For example if your offline drive is your E: drive, search for:
e:
Does Everything find any results?
If not its most likely Everything has rebuilt the index and lost your offline index.
You will need to re-index with the offline volume attached, or try the Everything 1.4 beta for improved offline volume indexing.

Re: everything does not remember my offline dive.
If you don't need your online & offline files shown together, you could always set up a separate instance specifically for your offline files. (Can even use different icons to differentiate one instance from another.)
Re: everything does not remember my offline dive.
Thanks for replies. folks. i will try the new version/
Re: everything does not remember my offline dive.
I have installed the latest version, and indexed the problem drive.
I will see if it remembers stuff after I have unplugged it for a while.

Re: everything does not remember my offline dive.
A few hours later
update. I had the drive plugged out, and did a search for something that i knew to be there.
It didn't.
I also had turned off the computer
I also did a search for content from a file belonging to a drive that wasn't connected.
It had found the content quickly before.
This time, it couldn't find it. It's not that it was slow, it just gave no results.
Then i noticed that the database was pointing to the D (cd/dvd) drive. i knew that couldn't be right.
So assuming that the database is the ini file, I pointed it in the right direction.
this time, it found the file content i was looking for.
I'll be intersted to see if this will have any bearing in finding stuff in offline volumes too.

Re: everything does not remember my offline dive.
No. It didn;t work.
i was wondering how I should deal with this drive as regards updating
It's a drive i might hook up to the computer once or twice a week, if even that.

Service 1
cmdline C:\Program Files (x86)\Everything\Everything.exe
Where is your database location? (under Tools -> Options -> Indexes)
To hide the debug console:

Update.
Turned off computer, and back on again.
Everything remembered items on offline drive
I just realised, i could have just added the drive as a list, either.
