HELP: Exclude files by modified date.

Post by Satjit »

Hi,

I have set the sort order by 'Date Modified' (descending) on my Everything instance. This is essentially to find which are the most recently modified files, on the system.

However, there are files which are future dated (Apr, 2020) :o (No clue as to why or how)

I would like to have these excluded from the view , in order to get the most recently modified files, on-top. How should I go about this?

Thanks!

dm:<=today

!dm:>today

My most futuristic date is a "non-date", 1-1-4501.
Oh wait, my filename says, 1-1-4501 aka the NON date, but the file date shows as, 01/01/4051.
(I'll have to figure out which is "right" & why I was looking at it?)

Thanks! That did the trick and I'm pleased as punch :D
How can I include the above parameter/s to be set (as default) upon launching a new Everything window and not show up, at all?

P.S. I configured it under 'Tools -> Options -> Home -> Search -> Custom -> dm:<=today' which shows it as part of the search box within a new window, but I'd rather it be hidden in the background (to not show future dated files, at all)

There are tools for changing the Date.
In your case I would consider using them.

IMO, this is a case for the Secondary Search (2) feature request.

Thanks for the suggestions, Stanimail.
The below (Windows related) files seem to be resistant to any date related change attempts :?

While this may be out-of-bounds; considering the immense support offered by the folks on this forum, I'd much appreciate any tips to omit these particular files from listing up, at all. Thanks!

Please try changing your Everything filter:
  • In Everything, from the Search menu, click Organize filters.
  • Select the Everything filter and click Edit.
  • Change the search to:
    dm:<=today
  • Click OK.
Now when the Everything filter is active, only files modified today or earlier are shown.

Alternatively, please change the dates of the files with erroneous dates:

Hurrah! Your suggestion worked perfectly well & the future dated files are now excluded from the search window.
Thanks a ton :D
