Initiating an Everything search, from a rank Everything beginner

Post by wdc »

I have a document written in OpenOffice Write that contains the words Westinghouse and Edison. The document is stored on my W10 pc.
When I open Everything and insert "Westinghouse", a file (with name Westinghouse.ink) is displayed; and when it is clicked the relevant document is displayed. Good.

But when I insert "Edison" in the initial search (instead of Westinghouse) then no files are located and displayed.

WHY is THAT. What am I doing wrong? Thanks. .... wdc

Generally, Everything searches for file names.

Everything can search (some ?) file content using Advanced Search (under the Search menu item) or using the content: function.

therube: I <am> interested in searching for a text string within a file. Can you please clarify when Everything will do such a search; and when it will not?
Also can you please be more specific on how I invoke Advance Search; where is "under the Search menu item?"

Thank you. ...wdc

If it can help:

content:function
viewtopic.php?t=5121

Advanced search: it's in the horizontal menus when the program is running.
File Edit Display Search Bookmarks Tools Help
Search > 6th entry, advanced search.
