Folders index disappears after restart

Post by goingtone »

Hey there.

At work we have a lot of files on a shared network drive. Whenever I search for a file using Windows Explorer, it takes my computer a very long time to search. But with the Everything app, I go into Options > Indexes > Folders and I add all the folders from the shared drive that I search. And the searches are instant! Which is great.

But when I restart my computer and open up the Everything app, all of the folders I indexed are gone and I need to re-do it.

How do I save my folder index settings so I don't have to keep recreating the index after each time I restart the computer?

Thanks for any help!

As you are at work, you have very likely a roaming profile:
settings you make are written to a network location when you log off. When you log on. those settings are loaded again.
Most of the times, when you keep using the same computer at your company, those settings aree also cached on that computer.
But when your admins clean that cache (automatically) or you switch between computers, you have to rely on this roaming profile to get your settings back.

Your settingsfile everything.ini (in %APPDATA%) will be saved and your everything.db database (in %LOCALAPPDATA%) will NOT be saved by default in roaming profiles, but your admin might have configured things differently.

Things to test: after you log off and on again (on another computer), are the Everything.ini and Everything.db still there?

If the database isn't there anymore, try changing the database location:
Menu:Tools > Options > Indexes : Database Location = %APPDATA%\Everything

But I might be way offf on this, as you provided *very* little information about your siuation

Please make sure you have store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything enabled:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Click OK.
