JPSoft's included ES questions.

Post by CSGalloway »

I am a registered user of JPSoft's TCMD and the included ES. I had installed TCMD v 23 and v 24 and ES was working. I then removed TCMD v 23 and installed a later build of TCMD v 24, then when I right click on a desktop folder and select "Search Everything" Explorer gives an error box saying Application not found".
I had posted this to the support forums on JPSoft at:

Please advise.......

Thank you....

If you would like to keep Everything:
  • Please download the latest Everything installer and install Everything.
  • Be sure to check Install folder context menus when prompted during the Select Install Options.
  • This will fix the Search Everything folder context menu item.
If you would like to remove Everything:
  • Please download the latest portable version of Everything.
  • Run Everything.exe
  • If prompted with access denied, select Do not index NTFS volumes.
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Uncheck Show Search Everything folder context menu item.
  • Uncheck any other items that might have been installed.
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything system tray icon and click Exit)
  • Delete Everything.exe
Alternately, manually uninstall the Search Everything context menu item:

I downloaded and took a look at the installer of TCMD v24 (did not install it as I was afraid that would ruin my own Everything installataion (*) )
Turns out the TCMD installer has it's own routine to install Everything (**) and thus should also take care of the uninstall.
But it does not ..

Workaround (not tested):

TCMD puts an Everything.exe in it's installation folder (an older version 1.4.1.895 )
Start that one
Go to Menu:Tools > Options > General
Check the state of Show Search Everything folder context menu item
Most Everything checkboxes are tri-state: on/off /partially on
I suspect in your case it would be partially on (it is configured, but through another Everything installation)
Try disabling Show Search Everything folder context menu item, followed by enabling it.

Good luck!

(*) After inspecting the installer: that WOULD ruin my current installation ...
(**) Which could use "some" improvements as it is poorly written and the installation logic is .. unlogic :)
