How to search external hard drive?
How to search external hard drive?
I may be missing something. How do I search an external hard drive, which I plug into my computer via a USB port? It's drive F:. I tried the Math Path option but it didn't find any files. None. Maybe I have to index the drive first? I can't make it work. Thanks much, Lary
Re: How to search external hard drive?
Is the drive formatted NTFS?
If not, then it cannot index it.
Otherwise, check Everything | Tools | Options -> Volumes.

Re: How to search external hard drive?
Thanks. It's formatted FAT32. Is there a way to re-format into NTFS without losing the data?

Re: How to search external hard drive?
your could try opening a command prompt (dos box) and typing
CONVERT volume /FS:NTFS
where volume is the drive letter of your external hdd.
Ensure it is not in use (no windows or files open etc) before you do.
