Save sorting

Post by Znarkus »

Hi! This is an excellent application, thanks!

I'm trying the latest alpha, since it had a ton of new features.

But I still can't make it remember to sort by latest modified. I found the option "Sort by newest..", but it doesn't work for me.

Is this possible?

Sorting by Date modified would be great, then the most relevant results would come first.

Unfortunately, "Everything" does not save sorting by date modified due to performance reasons.

However, you can save the sorting by recent changes.

Awesome, thanks!

What is Date Recently Changed? It's not set on most of the files.

Couldn't it save sorting only for small result sets (those that doesn't yield a warning before sortnig)? I really only want to search a specific folder, so the result set shouldn't be that large.

Recent changes is similar to date modified, but only exists for files or folders changed within the last week.

Recent changes basically refers to the contents of the USN Change Journal, that is a list of changes to the file system.

Usually recent changes will go back about a week, depending on the size of the USN Change Journal and usage of your file system.

You can change the maximum size of the USN Change Journal.

To change the USN Change Journal maximum size:
  • In "Everything", from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Volumes tab.
  • For each volume in the Local NTFS volumes list:
    • Set the Maximum size to 8192 KB (~one week) - 32768 KB (~one month).
  • Click OK.
Recent changes can usually be loaded within a few seconds, and can be searched and sorted instantly thereafter.

I am considering the option to remember the sort order for smaller searches..

That would be perfect. Many high-end systems with SSD's can probably handle this. Thanks!
