Everything does not always display video file size

Post by JTCGiants56 »

Sometimes, everything will not display the file size of videos. These are mostly .mp4s. Under the size column, it will just be blank. If I right click the file and go to properties, or use mediainfo, I can see the size. Even after a re-index of everything it will not show the file size. This seems to happen rarely, usually with larger videos of 5+gb. I have a hunch that these videos may be slightly corrupted, even though they run normal for the most part. With the method everything uses to calculate size, is possible corruption a cause, or its just a fluke with some files?

Everything doesn't like to update the file size until all handles are closed.

Is something still writing to these files? are they in the process of being downloaded?
Even after a re-index of everything it will not show the file size.
Even after a force rebuild from Tools -> Options -> Indexes -> Force Rebuild?
It's possible Everything is not reading the file size correctly. Maybe these larger ones are sparse files that Everything is having trouble reading the size.
What are the reported attributes in Everything for the files?

Have to assume that he did the rebuild - while the file was still downloading (not after it had completed).
(Once it completed, it should then should expected size in any case.)
(Oh, & not just downloading, but "creating", like if you're encoding... pretty sure same sort of situation.)

I'd think not. (I'd hope not.)
