searching fat 32 drives.

Post by irish »

Hi. one of my external drives is fat 32.
To search for files on it before, I put into folder options.
Right now, everything is not recognising the E drive.
I have it in listed in folder options.
I press rescan now. but nothing seems to be happening.

Do you have a filter enabled that might excludes all files on your E:-drive?
Enable the Everything filter (Menu:Search > Everything)

Is your drive listed as E: in Explorer?
If it uses a different driveletter, make changes in the Everything Folders configuration.

If you type "root:" (without "") in the search bar, is your E:-drive listed?

Did you configure an exclusion?
Check Menu:Tools > Option > Indexes > Exclude

Is your E:-drive an encrypted drive? ( = no access before entering a password or similar)
Try a rescan *after* the drive is unlocked.

Hi. thanks for replying, by the way.

"Do you have a filter enabled that might excludes all files on your E:-drive?

okay, I did a search for an item on the E drive after disabling filters.
Nothing.

"Is your drive listed as E: in Explorer?

no, it's called "H"

"If it uses a different driveletter, make changes in the Everything Folders configuration."
Perhaps I put you on the wrong track before.
In Options/indexes/folders-I can add the E drive. It's just that when I press rescan now, Everything is doing nothing.
I also have the C drive as a folder besides as NTFS. I pressed rescan for the hell of it, and the word "rescan popped up beside it.
The same for an F drive.
Where exactly is the "Everything Folders configuration" please. Are you referring to "options" or somewhere else?

"If you type "root:" (without "") in the search bar, is your E:-drive listed?"
No.

Did you configure an exclusion?
Check Menu:Tools > Option > Indexes > Exclude
No.

I will also say that I have also been trying some alternatives to £verything. The files from the drive are showing up. I am going to try an uninstall and reinstall and see what happens.

Everything will be unable to index your E: drive if it does not exist.

To add your H: drive to your Everything index:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Folders tab.
  • Click Add....
  • Select your H: drive and click OK.
  • Click OK.

If you search for:
root:
Everything should now list your H: drive.
