N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
N: is not kept in the offline volumes.
Everything showed two N: drives, I have only one, that was not kept as a offline drive. When I entered N: in the search field nothing is shown, no item in the result. I removed the two N: entries. After the N: drive was connected the items of the drive were shown after plugging it off. But now there is not any item shown again.
How could I make that work?
How could one enlarge the area showning the offline volumes?

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
It sounds like Everything is clearing the index of your N: drive.
Everything might be detecting the N: drive as 'moved'.
Please try disabling automatically remove moved volumes:
Everything 1.5 will have support for resizing the options window.
Everything 1.5 removes detection of moved volumes.
More information on the index can be found in Everything 1.5 under Tools -> Debug -> Statistics.

Please try disabling automatically remove moved volumes:
- In Everything 1.4, type in the following search and press ENTER:
/auto_remove_moved_ntfs_volumes=0 - If successful, auto_remove_moved_ntfs_volumes=0 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.
- Force a rebuild from Tools -> Options -> Indexes -> Force Rebuild
- Please let me know if the issue persists.

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
Many thanks!
When pressing a few times ENTER after the first time (by keeping /auto_remove_moved_ntfs_volumes=0 in the search) again no display in the satuts bar.
1.5 sounds very great, thank you!
Is this to prevent adding the (same) volumes of the same drives with different drive letters again? So is it addressing the problem that after reinstalling Win or so all of the external drives always get the same drive letters (D: or E:)?automatically remove moved volumes

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
Everything tracks volumes by GUID, Path and Root.Is this to prevent adding the (same) volumes of the same drives with different drive letters again? So is it addressing the problem that after reinstalling Win or so all of the external drives always get the same drive letters (D: or E:)?
Everything 1.4 will watch the GUID, and if the Path changes, will remove the old volume and add the new one.
This can causes issues if you add subst volumes or new mount points.
There might be another volume sharing the same GUID as your N: drive.
Please try the following:
- Copy the following text:
Code: Select all
/auto_remove_moved_ntfs_volumes=0
- Paste the copied text into the Everything search box and press ENTER.
- Note the auto_remove_moved_ntfs_volumes=0 text in the status bar, which should be displayed for 3 seconds.
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
Thank you very much!
This one I have:
I did, the same like before. Is it the same I should do / had done before? Please try the following:
When I click "Select all" and press CTRL+C and press CTRL+V to enter it in the search this code / chars is shown:Copy the following text:

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
There's a new line at the end of some reason when using the 'Select All' option.
Please try selecting the text below with your mouse and using Ctrl + C to copy:
/auto_remove_moved_ntfs_volumes=0
Your version is up-to-date.

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
Yes, I did it all the time / before like that. I never used the "Select all" text. Please try selecting the text below with your mouse and using Ctrl + C to copy:
I did (like the times before), now it shows:
It seems that was like it should be. But why? I did not (intentionally / deliberately) do anything (the steps) differently. And I even cannot reproduce the failures before by (supposed) doing it the identical way I did it before.
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
It's all good now anyway, the status bar shows auto_remove_moved_ntfs_volumes is disabled.
I recommend restarting Everything to ensure this setting is saved:
Please let me know if your N: disappears from your index again.

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
Yes, but I wonder how something can be that (actually) can't be. Well, OK, one will probably never know. It's all good now anyway, the status bar shows auto_remove_moved_ntfs_volumes is disabled.
Yes, I restarted.
I will do so. Many thanks! Please let me know if your N: disappears from your index again.
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
N: is plugged in now and N: now seems to be added again to the NTFS volumes:
But sometime after plugging off the drive it will be gone again, I assume. Is there anything else one could do to keep that volume when the drive is offline?

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
After N: automatically being added to the NTFS volumes again 1, 2 days or so ago after plugging in N: it obviously completely was scannend and kept after plugging off N:. After plugging off N: volume N: was available for some time. I now have plugged in Z: and after Everything updated Z: it did (I thought) not show N: anymore (I entered "N:" in the search field, in the status bar "0 objects" was shown, if I remember it correctly, but I am not sure anymore). After a while ("N:" still entered in the search field) suddenly N: (the objects stored on N:) was displayed. So obviously it took some time to display the objects since entering "N:". So at the moment I am not sure anymore what really happened. Sorry for the confusion.
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
Maybe a filter is being set? or a search option such as match case?
Everything should keep the offline N: drive in your index forever.
Even when you force a rebuild, or add a new volume.
The only way Everything will forget this drive is:
You delete your Everything.db while Everything is not running.
Everything detects your Everything.db is corrupt (Everything will show an error message)
If you notice this again, please try the following search:
root:
This will list all your indexed volumes in Everything.

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
To see if N: is stll there I (intentionally) do not use such.Maybe a filter is being set? or a search option such as match case?
Yes, that is like my understanding was.Everything should keep the offline N: drive in your index forever.
Even when you force a rebuild, or add a new volume.
Both of them did not happen as far as I remember. You delete your Everything.db while Everything is not running.
Everything detects your Everything.db is corrupt (Everything will show an error message)
I am not sure to understand correctly. In the result list there are missing many (duplicate) volumes shown in Options "NTVS":If you notice this again, please try the following search:
root:
This will list all your indexed volumes in Everything.
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
I just restarted the Notebook and after Everything has inedexed N: again is not available anymore.
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
Thank you for the information Biff,
This reindex will clear your N: drive.
If you have not closed Everything on the laptop, could you please send some debug:
The Everything database is most likely corrupt so Everything is reindexing on startup.after Everything has indexed
This reindex will clear your N: drive.
If you have not closed Everything on the laptop, could you please send some debug:
- Terminate Everything (this will ensure the database is not written to disk):
- From the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + ESC)
- Click the Details tab.
- Select Everything.exe (if there are two, please select the one using the most memory)
- Click End Task.
- From a command prompt, navigate to your Everything.exe location:
cd "C:\Program Files\Everything" - Launch Everything with the -debug-log command line option:
Everything.exe -debug-log
---wait for Everything to reindex--- - Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
- Could you please send your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt to support@voidtools.com
- This log will contain the rebuild reason.
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
Thank you very much!
I use Everything protable, here: J:\Programme\Everything\Everything.exe
Sorry, It does not work that way:
So I take this Everything (of these two) and "End Task" ("Task beenden")
So after a reboot, or even when a disk is removed or added Everything shouldn't (re)index at all (which it does every time if I'm observing correctly)? I hope I use the right term(s). By "re/index" I mean it obviously scans the drive(s), one drive (also the ones plugged off) after the other of all ones I have, I assume, is shown in the status bar.The Everything database is most likely corrupt so Everything is reindexing on startup.

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
There are two types of reindexes.
Fast and slow.
If you add a volume to your index, Everything will perform a fast reindex.
This usually takes a few seconds.
Only the added volume is scanned.
If you remove a volume from your index, Everything will perform a fast reindex.
This usually only takes one second.
No volumes are rescanned.
If your Everything.db is detected as corrupt, Everything will perform a slow reindex.
This will take a minute
All volumes are rescanned.
Offline volumes will appear missing.

Correct. So I take this Everything (of these two) and "End Task" ("Task beenden")
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
It seems that never happens here.If you add a volume to your index, Everything will perform a fast reindex.

It seems that never happens here as well.If you remove a volume from your index, Everything will perform a fast reindex.

No volumes are rescanned.
It seems that happens here ALWAYS.If your Everything.db is detected as corrupt, Everything will perform a slow reindex.

All volumes are rescanned.

Sorry for asking again, how can I get here:
I use Everything protable, here: J:\Programme\Everything\Everything.exe
Sorry, It does not work that way:
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
It takes, I estimate up to 10, 15, 20 minutes here.If your Everything.db is detected as corrupt, Everything will perform a slow reindex.
This will take a minute
All volumes are rescanned.
Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
Please make sure Everything is not running.
From a command prompt, type in the following commands:
Launch Everything with the -debug-log command line option:

Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
Could you please send your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt to support@voidtools.com

Re: N: is not kept in the offline volumes?
I closed Everything by clicking "Exit". This was still running:
I did not close it (with the Task Manager with "End Task").
I exited it with:
Here was the log:
C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\Everything Debug Log.txt
I just sent it to you.
