Unspecified Error Windows 11
Unspecified Error Windows 11
I'm having an error on a new Windows 11 build. It finds files normally but when I double-click to open I get a pop-up with an "Unspecified Error". If I right-click and open the path it works fine, the problem only occurs when trying to open a file directly from Everything. Any insight is appreciated.

Which?a new Windows 11 build
Does this happen for all files or only Dropbox files?but when I double-click to open I get a pop-up with an "Unspecified Error"
Re: Unspecified Error Windows 11
Good point, it only happens on dropbox files that are online, not actually in that location.

Re: Unspecified Error Windows 11
Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the General tab on the left.
- Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
- Uncheck Run as administrator.
- Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
- Click OK.
- Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
- Restart Everything.

I tried that, I saw the instructions in another post. Unfortunately still persists.
Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Re: Unspecified Error Windows 11
This error is shown by the Windows Shell, not Everything.
Everything is calling ShellExecute with the path to your Dropbox file.
I wonder if Dropbox is blocking access to the Everything.exe process..
Please try making a copy of your Everything.exe and restarting Everything:
Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
Copy your Everything.exe to Everything2.exe
Start Everything2.exe
Please try rescanning your Dropbox folder in Everything:

That worked, thanks!
How can I make the fix permanent?
