Please check your Errorlog.txt file in your Everything installation folder for system errors.

Please try the following:
  • Exit Everything.
  • Delete your Everything.db file in your Everything installation folder.
  • Restart Everything.

Hi,

the errorlog.txt contains:
--------- -
Everything 1.3.2.649b: .\src\tray.c(99): _tray_add_taskbar_icon(): Failed to notify shell icon, GetLastError(): 1008
--------

as you instructed, i delete the Everything.db, and then restart the application. however, the occurrence still the same.
the following is the experience:
I create a copy of a file (say A.doc), then i search A.doc with Everything and get two search result, "A.doc" and "A.doc copy". Then, i delete the file of "A.doc copy" within Everything or outside Everything (here, i tried twice, one time within, the other time outside Everything). After deletion, I come back to Everything and search A.doc again, the result still shows two files, "A.doc" and "A.doc copy".

pls. help. thanks.

Thanks for the errorlog.txt.

I assume you are running Everything 1.3.2.649b?

Are you using folder indexing or NTFS indexing?

Could you please post the verbose debug output when deleting a file?

Re: search result doesn't update when deletion

Post by Kort »

This looks like the same problem that I recently reported, "Deleted files are not removed from Results", see here: http://forum.voidtools.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2014

In my case, I had Everything setup to Exclude the Recycle Bin ($Recycle.Bin). If I deleted a file to the Recycle Bin, the file still showed up in the Results, but it was missing the file datestamp information. However, if I permanently deleted the file (using shift-Del), the file no longer showed in the Results.

Note- the Results were correctly (and dynamically) updated whenever the file was copied, moved or renamed. The only issue is when deleting the file and it gets moved into the Recycle Bin--the Results do not update automatically (must manually refresh with F5), and the filename and path aren't removed from the Results as they should be.

Void (David) replied, "I am aware of an issue that might cause this I will post a fix soon." Hopfully this will fix both our issues...

Thanks for the debug output testerA,

The Everything monitors appear to be detecting changes.

As Kort suggests, this could be related to the deleted results not updating bug.
Please try removing any excluded folders.

I can confirm this behavior with Everything showing deleted files in their original location. It was driving me crazy until I removed the recycle bin folder from the exclusion list. If there is a way to fix this, please do so - showing recycle bin files adds too much noise to the results. Thanks!
