Common problems

Post by David »

  • Make sure you run "Everything" with administrative privileges.
  • Make sure you have at least one NTFS volume.
  • Please check your disk(s) for errors.
System errors encountered by "Everything" are reported to the Errorlog.txt file in your "Everything" installation folder.
Please check your Errorlog.txt file for additional error information.

To check your disk(s) for errors:
  • In My Computer, for each volume:
  • Right click and select Properties.
  • Click the Tools tab.
  • Click Check now....
  • Select Automatically fix file system errors.
  • Click Start.
  • If prompted to schedule the disk check the next time you restart the computer select Yes.

Where do I find scandisk?
It is not present on my Vista system as far as I can tell.

Thanks for a great software product that I use every few
minutes!

Scandisk was the name of the MS-DOS and older Windows disk checker...

Under Windows 2000 and later it is called CHKDSK and is integrated in the Disk properties.

I run everything with admin priviliges in windows 7, but i get the annoying uac dialog prompt, is there anyway to disable uac just for this program? i don't want to create a security hole just for 1 application.

Thank you those methods work, only problem is cannot pass arguments to everything.
In xp i had a shortcut with the option -search and using launchy i just typed the search i wanted and it would pass that argument and everything would start inmediatly searching.
But since it's a task i cannot pass arguments each time, only when creating the task :(

Once "Everything" is running, try using this non-admin app to pass arguments to "Everything":

""Everything" will run on Windows 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista and Windows 7
"Everything" will only locate files and folders on local NTFS volumes.
"Everything" requires administrative privileges for low level read access to volumes."

Hi. I am using a Win 7 machine, and have found Everything immensely helpful on my previous Win 7 machine. On my newer machine, however, Everything will give me results for files and folders in my libraries, but not in folders on my desktop -- although if I open a folder on my desktop and then use Everything to search inside it, it works. How can I get the software to search file-names in all my folders, both on the desktop and in my libraries? Please explain any steps I need to take with a simple, non-tech-savvy user in mind, & thanks for the help (and fine software).

The Libraries folder is a virtual folder.

Unfortunately, Everything does not index virtual folders.

I will consider adding support for virtual folders in a future release.
