Windows 8.1 User Acct Control and Everything

Post by kingochowdah »

Is there any way to fix this? Just got a new Win 8 laptop for my wife and setting it up.

On startup when Everything loads (same thing happens if I start it later too) I get a User Account Control error " Do you want the following program to make changes ......"

Say yes and next it loads Everything, same thing.

Changed it to run as Administrator and set compatibly to Win 7 and XP but I can't get rid of the error. Any suggestions?

You can disable UAC in control panel. Google online, and you will find how to do it.

Set Everything to use its "service".

Call it alpha, call it beta, call it what you want.
You have two choices, the old version or the new.
For me the new offers benefits, one of which is the ability to run the Service, avoiding the UAC prompt (& at the same time, running in a non-Admin level).

I believe a search here should turn up work-arounds to the UAC prompt.

Must be doing something wrong. Downloaded and installed the Beta. Turned off Run at Startup, use service at the default port of 15485. But I still get the error when I open Everything.

Before I posted this question I did look for UAC help but didn't find anything I really could use. I've also Googled the Internet and didn't find an answer either.
