Here is the message I just sent to the owner of this website. I have used Everything for years. I run Win10 Pro and sweep for malware every night. I'm going to have to change every single password I have everywhere for every single function I use now.
" Everything just got infected with the Win32.user virus on my machine.
The infection got past my antimalware, which always runs, somehow, and was only caught today when I performed a non-automatic scan.
Btw, I performed that scan because I can't get access to any of my records in windows 10; C-drive, Programs, control panel, file explorer, this pc, documents etc.
After several days of denied access, they all began to revert to Everything. When I clicked to open any of those folders, Everything would open up and display a very long series of numbers and letters, with no spaces, but also no results.
One other observation: Everything's normal interface display changed by itself about a week ago. I spent hours trying to figure it out and failing. There was suddenly only one column header; the left one. It had always displayed other headings, especially the location of the files, which is very important for finding the result the user wants quickly.
These changes may very well be caused by the virus, but it's been removed, and I still can't open any of these functions.
Please do review your program for vulnerabilities to infection, remembering that hackers are constantly creating new exploits, so your old measures may not be good enough anymore, and Windows Updates may also create new vulnerabilities. There's really no substitute for keeping a test mule computer and letting hackers assault it constantly.

Might it be more correct to say that your system had a virus & that virus may have infected Everything?Everything just got infected with the Win32.user virus on my machine
(From the bit I gleaned, supposedly that virus, & depending on what variant..., infects other .exe, & then proceeds to do whatever else it may want to do from there...)
The Name column in Everything is fixed, is always there.
Other columns can be (de)selected.
Right-click the column header bar & you should be able to "re-show" deselected columns.
Or, the column widths may have been set to 0, which would effectively hide a column.
Moving your mouse cursor over a column divider may show that there is something, a column, that can be dragged, larger.
What did you use for that?the virus, but it's been removed
I suppose some sort of self hash check could built into the .exe, such that if it was modified it would fail to run?review your program for vulnerabilities to infection
(By default, isn't a place like /Program Files/ supposed to be a "secure" place [heh], that one shouldn't be able to modify files... well, unless you have a virus .)
Re: Malware Virus infection in Everything is DANGEROUS to us all
You might want to backup your Everything.ini, make a copy called, let's say called, Everything_VIR.ini, & forward that to Bug Report.
Then, if you were to delete Everything.ini (with Everything closed), then open Everything, that would create a new Everything.ini - with all default settings (which should then show your expected columns...).
Any customization's you had made would be gone, but you could reference back to the backup copy that you made to try to get those back...

What version of Everything?
1.4 download page has SHA256 link you can use to compare the validity of your Everything exe/zip.

'Might it be more correct to say ...? No, that's a given in malwareland'
I removed the virus with Webroot, a unique security program which got some undeserved ratings because it doesn't operate like any other. PC Magazine revised its poor rating after realizing that and rated it as highly as any other suite.
In other posting, you said I could add headings to Everything. Not anymore, I couldn't. They disappeared and I couldn't add any. No solutions on net worked.
I've uninstalled Everything for the time being.
Btw, I couldn't uninstall Everything before removing the virus.
