A string of gibberish when I search "My Computer"

Post by kurdi »

I've used Everything on XP for a long time with no problems.
(I also featured it prominently in several articles on my site http://www.freewaregenius.com)

However, I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and noticed that whenever I right click the 'My Computer' icon on the desktop and select "Search Everything", a string of gibberish appears that has to be manually deleted (using backspace) before I can perform a search.

It looks like this

I installed on a friend's vista machine and found that it did the same thing there as well.

Any input on how to prevent this would be extremely appreciated. Thanks!

Something to do with "My Computer", but what, I'm not sure?

Perhaps something like that string is a synonym for "My Computer". My Computer isn't really a "thing", more like a "concept".
On XP, for me, it simply displays a set of double quotes followed by a space, |"" |.

When you click Search "Everything"... from My Computer Windows passes a empty path.

"Everything" also handles empty strings in the command line incorrectly.

I have improved the handling of empty strings for the next release.

I have added support right clicking My Computer to my "Things to do" list.
