I've used Everything before but never looked into it too much. Now I see it is a lot more powerful with cmd line, efu files etc. So I think it can be used for much more than search - it can replace disc catalog programs, folder size programs etc since all this knowledge is already stored in it (for NTFS of course).
Are people using it like this, how are advanced users using this program? What I'd like is as follows -
1. use Everything as disc cataloger. When I insert a new external disk, it should be cataloged (prob as efu file) but based on its serial number, not name, so next time the same drive is detected it can be recognized even is label is new.
for this I have found - viewtopic.php?t=6181
and you can combine multiple efu files by concatening them, but there seems to be no way to update them then - i.e. if I add new files to a disk I want to update its efu and still be able to search it offline.
2. be able to browse catalogs in tree view (I know there are existing topic for this, as well as this - viewtopic.php?t=5635
which I never got to work
3. Integration into explorer programs. I use xplorer2 (paid version since I like it very much). I found posts about it being used in Explorer++ by a member Janus.
If I want to do this on my own, I'd be using the SDK right? I will ask in the dev forum about it if so.
In general I wish someone could build a slightly more powerful UI using the Everything search engine with features like above. Since the code is not open source, we can use es.exe and sdk but I don't know if that is enough.
But I'm looking forward to trying it out.
